Explore84: LIGHT CHASERS Monthly Challenge
Explore84 a monthly challenge to encourage photographers to explore or expand on different genres, techniques, and concepts. Each month, we will announce seven themes — one for each day of the week. Throughout the month, post your photos on the designated days with the hashtag of the theme and #Explore84; the hashtags will let admins find your images easily, and you’ll automatically be considered for monthly awards. Basic story/description and EXIF data must be included, as usual.
Every month, we’ll choose a winner for each theme, and from the seven winners, we’ll choose an image that will win the spot for the cover image for the month. At the end of the year, we will honor the top images and the most active participants of the Explore 84 challenge.
Explore 84 and its themes are simply additional prompts to get you out of your comfort zone and try new techniques, subject matter, or locations. Some themes will feature genres or techniques that are less common in our community, such as still life, abstracts, portraiture, off-camera flash, and street photography. Some will be more familiar to our group, such as seascapes or Milky Way. Topics will be seasonal, too. In June, for example, we’ll have #FairFunFriday to celebrate the San Diego County Fair and other fairs and carnivals. In October, we’ll have #FallColorsFriday.
Why “Explore84”?
With 12 months and 7 themes for each month, that’s 84. In numerology, the number 84 represents creative expression, discovery, inspiration, and prosperity. Pretty cool, right? Any questions? Please ask. Suggestions for themes? Let us know!
