Getting Ready for Dia de los Muertos
By Lois Fong-Sakai
The Day of the Dead consists of three days of celebrations. October 31 is known as All Hallows Eve, when children make altars inviting the angelitos to come back for a visit. November 1 is All Saints Day, when adult spirits visit. And November 2 is All Souls Day, when families decorate graves and tombs of their relatives.
A couple of years ago, while walking through San Diego’s Old Town Historic State Park, I came across this young lady preparing for Dia de los Muertos. The light from the mirror reflected beautifully upon her face, lighting it up perfectly!
My wish is that our family and friends that have passed always have peaceful spiritual journeys.
