Latchkey Brewery Exhibition: Morning Fog Under the Tree

Morning Fog Under the Tree

By Brian Jolliffe

On April 1 of last year, I went up to Double Peak Park in South San Marcos, to hopefully shoot the setting full moon. I had originally planned that shot with the aid of Photographers Ephemeris. When I awoke early that morning, I looked out my window in Escondido, and the fog was really heavy. I knew my chances of a setting full moon were going to be really slim. Nonetheless, I headed though the thick fog, arriving at Double Peak about 25 minutes before the moonset. The fog was stubborn, and lasted past the moonset time. I stayed there shooting some “fog” shots of the tree, then packed up, and went back down to my car. Just as I placed my equipment in the trunk, the fog lifted from the top of the hill, and the morning light was attention grabbing. I grabbed my camera and tripod, and ran back up to the top, where there was a layer of fog lying below me in all directions, and the view was absolutely stunning! Almost insanely stunning! I knew that I had to act quick, or lose this shot. I had to compose quick, and did not even bother to use my tripod. I got in a couple of shots, and the fog quickly enveloped me. That breathtaking view disappeared just as quick. I’m just really grateful I did not let the heavy fog persuade me to stay home that morning.
